Fission – coming in June!

Before There be Monsters! Before the Alex and Jackie Adventures, there was fission – the amazing, but true, story of Lise Meitner. I first heard of Lise Meitner when I read the David Bodanis book, e=mc2. Lise’s was such an incredible story that I had to find out more about her, so I read biographies about Lise and her more famous contemporaries, and the more I read the more I was shocked that I’d never head of this woman – maybe the most important woman of the 20th century.

“Someone has to tell this story,” I complained to Leigh.

“Then why don’t you tell it,” she replied.

The result of that conversation was my screenplay, fission, which, although it won critical acclaim (including finalist at the London Independent Film Festival), remains unproduced. I turned to other projects, such as First Night, but I could not just forget Lise Meitner.

Because the story of Lise Meitner is too important to forget; and so I’m taking it up a notch.

Starting in June, I shall be turning fission into a novel; and I shall be presenting it in serial form, free of charge, to my facebook fans. I expect the finished work to be delivered over the course of the next year, chapter by chapter as each is written.

This is a major experiment for me. For you, you’ll get this story hot off the press, as it is written.More importantly, you’ll get to read about Lise Meitner. If, like me, you had never heard of her, you are in for something really astounding: a story of determination, prejudice, betrayal, presidents, kings, two world wars, the atomic bomb, and one little woman who lived through it all, never gave up, and shaped the world we live in.

So stay tuned to this page.

Chapter 1 of fission will be published here in June, 2010.
